re: #316 William Lewis

They do hate being reminded that even when they had small arms parity, they still got curb stomped by the government’s forces. But that fantasy is strong. Especially when they start blathering about the VC with no understanding of the international supply and support of them.

I’m pretty sure Russia and China will be willing to help out the barbarians.

Which would make them just like the VC.

ETA: Guerrilla warfare works only when the power being fought against has a place to run to, or they are monumentally incompetent.

Guerrilla warfare worked in Vietnam and Afghanistan because it became too expensive to remain. And the Americans and Russians could return home.

It worked in Cuba and Nicaragua because the local governments were idiots.

I doubt it would work in America as the government isn’t completely incompetent and they have nowhere to run. Plus guerrillas generally suffer 10 to 50 casualties for every casualty inflicted on the government.

Quick probably apocryphal story.

After the war a US Army officer met a Vietnamese officer.

“You know,” says the American, “You never beat us in the field.”

“That is true, ” is the reply. “It is also irrelevant.”
