re: #385 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

The ground work for the collapse of the GOP into a cesspit of atavism was laid long before the Tea Party.

We need to look at the long run of how to make changes. Changes don’t happen by fiat (except in a dictatorship.) Change happens as generations turn over, which means change is slow.

And slow means finding ways of building bridges in critical political districts. Such as happened last time here in San Diego county, when Car Thief finally was not longer representing that (rich) part of the county. It took several elections to flip that district to (D).

If you look at “purple” districts, like the two in Iowa which flipped last election to (D), they can flip right back to (R) if the electorate perceives a threat.

We live in a country where a third of the people still think the world was created 6000 years ago.

Working in a society like that is never going to allow the type of progressivism that AOC wants. It just isn’t going to work.

Which is why I never encourage Democratic candidates to go all atheist in their public discourses, because claiming such non-beliefs is still seen as outcast in our society.

Change is slow, except for the collapse of the Whigs and the realignment after the Civil Rights act, where political change was pretty quick.
