Take all that and increase the rivalries exponentially from the 1930s-1960 as the Yankees, Giants, and Dodgers all played for titles in NYC. Talk about intracity rivalries - the Yankees and Giants essentially played within a mile of each other. It was across the Harlem River.

Yep that came up in our discussion too. A lot of discussion about class, geography, etc playing a role. I’m not sure who Queens rooted for before the Mets. A lot of this is cultural too. The Dodgers and Giants definitely picked up more African-American and minority fans when they signed people like Jackie Robinson, Roy Campabella, Willie Mays, Monte Irvin, and Don Newcombe. Sad to say that Willie is the only one of those five guys still with us since Newk just passed away.
