West Germans have been living with and among foreigners for decades and are generally okay about it, even if they are not always a model of tolerance and acceptance.

West Germany allowed in Turks as guest workers after WW2 and…well, by German standards maybe it wasn’t bad, but Turks were definitely treated with the kind of contempt and othering Central Americans get in the US.

But Turks were also prime Neonazi targets on the multiple occasions there were fascist street culture flare-ups.

And while I haven’t checked on it lately to see if things have changed. , for many years there were a bunch of German-born people of Turkish descent living in a legal limbo w/r/t citizenship they didn’t get that status as babies and were being slow-walked as adults.
