You go with what you got… and Romney’s got nothing to lose by lying - and continuing to lie. His base is running with it, those who know better are running with it, and they seem to think that it’s a winning issue to show that Obama is 1) weak on foreign policy; (2) is an apologist for US; and (3) doesn’t have US’ best interests in mind because he’s indecisive.

Each is a facet of the other, but it’s all part of longstanding GOP claims against the Administration. And that’s even though on the GWOT, the Obama Administration has largely continued Bush era policies and in many respects gone even more aggressively against terror groups, including killing OBL in the Abbottabad Pakistan raid. It’s kinda tough to claim that the President isn’t going after terrorists enough, when he was willing to invade a nominal ally with military forces to kill/capture OBL.

But that’s what cognitive dissonance will do.
