re: #349 Shiplord Kirel

Firewalking is a familiar woo woo trick and Robbins has been running the scam for 35 years. There is nothing supernatural or transcendent about it at all. The trick is having the coals properly prepared, with the very low density ash material actually transferring very little heat despite being glowing hot. It is also necessary to step very quickly and not leave any particular area of skin in contract with the ash for more than a fraction of a second. This rules out pausing for selfies.

I habitually conduct my charcoal grilling barefoot, because I am a moron. Once, after firing things up in the chimney, I lost a little dime-sized coal out the bottom of the chimney and proceeded to put my heel on it.

Turns out it takes a good three or four seconds before you start to feel it. I do not recommend duplicating this experiment [xkcd Image: the_difference.png]— a full-callous-thick blister takes a good long while to go away.
