Regarding hurricane vs typhoon vs cyclone: Why do we insist on calling countries by names different than the ones used in the country itself? And I’m not talking about language translations like what the United States of America is called in Spanish. Why don’t we call Germany Deutschland?

And why Carthage and not Carthago?

And why America and not Vespucciland?
