I caught a bit of Morning Joe and one of them said this is a bit of misguided thinking; more of NRA power positioning.

His contention was voting lately around the country and over the last few years does show favorability for sensible gun policies.

That leads me to believe it is all about the money. Politicians might be saying that and making that a scare tactic because it pays very well.

Something to consider. Maybe that poison is really a placebo. $6 to $3 million to some senators can get those guys to say just about anything.

This could be very well be right: unfortunately, it will have to withstand a real-world electoral test to be proved right: though the prospect of the NRA losing a well-publicized campaign to an avowed opponent would have to give them fits: once their image as this unstoppable, unopposable Juggernaut of American politics gets broken, its going to be hard to put back together. Yes, they’ll always have the wingnuts and gun-humpers: but if the shallowness of that “base” ever gets exposed (and 30% support isn’t going to cut it on a national level) they’ll be screwed. Or at least unless/until they can rake up enough money to try to simply swamp the opposition. But that would (one hopes) have to be ALL the opposition - and that’s a task of another order.
