We were taught that if the balloon went up, each tank needed to take out 5 WP T-72’s before dying to slow them enough for REFORGER to work.

What they didn’t tell us then was that they already knew the APFSDS we had would shatter on the T-72 from the front rather than penetrate. They started giving us DU rounds as I was going back to the states to make up for that…

OTOH, when Germany reunited, East German army reports showed that the WP expected that REFORGER would be 2x as fast and bring 3x as many troops as it actually could. That kept them from trying…
