The irony, of course, is that the level of automation in US industry means that you’re just giving polluters the right to pollute without really creating anything in return.

There are gigantic chemical plants with a workforce of about fifty guys, producing billions worth of chemicals. But now that we’re reducing the EPAs ability to go after them for pollution, they’ll be able to make even more money and not worry about pesky things like local water quality.
