re: #396 Eclectic Cyborg
But what is Real America?
- Is it a Detroit Lions halftime show?
- It is a young married couple moving into their new home in San Francisco for the first time.
- Is it a busy pizza shop in New York?
- Is it some rappers and street dancers in Miami?
- Is it a farmer in Nebraska tending to his crops?
- Is it a family in Georgia taking their pickup truck to the creek on a hot summers day?
- Is a father and son going to a gun range and doing some target shooting on Saturday morning?
- Is it a group of friends hiking the Rockies in Colorado?
- Is it some college kids smoking weed in an apartment in Seattle?
- Is it the single mother from Phoenix working two jobs to support her kids?
- Is it a Latina woman selling handmade crafts in a market in San Antonio?
It’s clearly ALL OF THESE THINGS and that seems to be the part that conservatives have a tough time grasping.
Like it or not we are a diverse nation and a diverse people. But that’s not a bad thing. Two weeks ago I was at a freshwater spring in Florida swimming. A black guy and his family talked to me about how cold the water was. Some Latinos who were there had a tent set up and they were playing music and dancing, others joined in. An Asian man and his girlfriend were taking pictures on a nearby dock. We were all having fun, it was a good time. Multiculturalism is NOT a bad thing.
Multiculturalism is a great thing. It really is.
