Right. So Eric Cantor doesn’t represent the GOP anymore. When he guarantees the crowd in his speech that not one Republican will vote for this bill, he’s just making that up? Not authorized to speak for the GOP despite the fact that he is a member of the party leadership?

If the House Minority Whip doesn’t speak for the GOP’s official positions, who does?

Monority and majority whips are the enforcers who get the party votes in line. Please make a distinction between lead and represent the majority view. When fellow lizards use phrases like “all conservative s think like…” or “the entire GOP is…” that just reflects ignorance about the fact that in the last analysis the people who lead our government are “the people”. The election of center right Governor’s this week and the rejection of extreme politics in NY 23 should be a very good illustration.

If I were left of center I’d be a lot more worried about what Speaker Pelosi is doing with her very real power base and the continued theme of “We Won” so we get to dictate the bills than what a few thousand Republican rabble rousers are doing on the Capitol steps.
