Yes, there’s a reason why historians call Hitler declaring war on the US a blunder. It’s nice to believe that we declared war on Germany because our policymakers saw what was going on and were horrified but that’s not what happened.

One of the more catastrophic blunders the Austrian corporal made. Perhaps one of the worst was the invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941, which ended up postponing Operation Barbarossa for something like five or six weeks - all so he could vent his spite against a small country that had dared to defy him.

Declaring war on the USA? IIRC, I think Ribbentrop (his dullard, sycophantic Foreign Minister) actually tried to talk him out of it, to no avail. Ironic as hell, because in ‘Mein Kampf’, Hitler pointedly noted that the US intervention in WWI was a decisive factor in Germany’s defeat.
