Mountain of Petroleum Coke From Oil Sands Rises in Detroit

I drove through Detroit a couple of years ago and couldn’t believe what I saw. They sky was yellow and there were mounds big ones of all sorts of what I can only assume was the byproduct of some kind of mining or other industrial processing.

The environment looked toxic.

It was a scene out of what I would expect to see in a 3rd world country processing waste. Very sad. I remember visiting family in Detroit when I was a kid and thinking how nice and green everywhere was.
