Perhaps if all the minority members of OCT had approached the citizens of the 5th Ward…

In any event, it’s thoughtful of them to give locals time to change their minds.

As I said above, i seriously doubt that march will go forwards. I think there will be another meeting, this time more private, which will effectively end with the 5th Ward community leaders effectively saying “We’re not cool with a large number of armed white people coming to our neighborhood and we never will be. Historically in this state such a thing has been the prelude to massive racist assaults on African American residents. We know you don’t intend to do that, but the memory is still raw for us and you need to respect that.”

There are of course reason to be concerned about some of OCT members but that’s not the thing to say directly to OCT. But it shouldn’t even get that far: OCT’s leadership should huddle up and then announce that they will not be going ahead with the march, out of respect for the wishes of the effected community.
