This tragic story illustrates the injustice of current immigration law in the US, and the evil of criminalizing something that causes no actual harm to person or property. All this poor woman needs is the imprimatur of the government in order to continue the life she’s as she’s done almost all her existence. Immigration hawks tend to be folks that decry government’s involvement in the lives of people. But they won’t extend this principle to people unless they have the government’s approval. Even if, as in this case, the government’s approval won’t change the woman one way or another. She’ll be the same person, pretty much indistinguishable from any other American.
