If Trayvon did attack Zimmerman post initial confrontation it might have in fact been self defense when Zimmerman pulled his gun. Getting your head slammed into the sidewalk is a pretty serious attack.

I find this version of events dubious for one reason: how could anyone have the presence of mind to reach for their gun and fire it when they’re head is being slammed - more than once - into a sidewalk? It doesn’t take many blows to the head like this to knock anyone silly, or worse yet, given them a concussion. It sounds to me like he was pretty lucid when police and paramedics arrived after the fight, at least enough to refuse medical care until the next day.

While Trayvon may not have been a saint (getting suspended from school), he was still unarmed, no evidence has been presented that he had an arrest record of any kind, and walking by yourself after dark in a gated community is not a crime. And Zimmerman has baggage of his own - he did time for assault on a police officer a few years before - which shows he has an aggressive streak of his own.

This revelation does not shed any more light on this case.
