There is a movement to eat food that is sourced as close to where you live as possible. If we raise the fuel tax we would see this be more of a reality. And yes it would decrease pollution and reduce consumption of fossil fuels.

And if eating locally means you eat less meat and more veggies, so much the better for your health.

The rest of the article is straw man type shit as to why we should not change the fucked up and damaging practices we have adopted these last decades.

This would work great for me. I live in Oregon. I can pick my own strawberries five miles from my house.

How well does this work for Arizona, New Mexico, or Manhattan?

No strawberries, pineapple, or apples for you…ever.
