I seriously doubt that’s the case—if the winds were still blowing in the opposite direction (or if they began to blow that way again tomorrow), I’m sure he’d be carrying on about “traditional marriage” again.

Same here. Gingrich’s actions here are welcome as a sign that hating on the gays is no longer working so well for the Republicans. That’s it.

There is no reason to be charitable to this version of the GOP, with its long history of opportunistically scapegoating and “othering” everyone except straight, white, aggressively Christian, wealthy men.
