Being called or thought of as racist is one of the worst things most whites can imagine. Not BEING racist, but being CALLED racist. Want to kill a conversation with white people? Drop that word. Otherwise well meaning white folks are so afraid of being CALLED racist that we can’t even examine our feelings and thoughts honestly, lest we find it in ourselves.

But if we never look for it, if we can’t admit it, we can’t stop doing it. First you have to admit it, then you can try to be better.
