Rod Dreher has gone full fucking Falangist.

America’s favorite reactionary moral intellectual watched a documentary series about the Spanish Civil War and on that rock solid basis reached this conclusion:

An old Catholic who had lived through those times told the filmmakers that for the first time in years, they could be public about their faith. That’s how I knew for sure that the correct side had won the war.
However, the Nationalists were exceptionally merciless in victory.

The Nationalists were basically fascists with an extra helping of Catholic identitarianism. Franco and the Falangists got financial aid from Mussolini and state of the art military aid from Hitler, which proved decisive. Franco sent volunteers to fight with the German army in Russia.

The other side was an unwieldy hodgepodge of Soviet backed communists, monarchists, anarchists and just anybody else who hated Nazi co-travelers.

Rod just sided with the Nazi pals. This is a guy who gets book reviews and op-eds in the NYT.
