I recently drove from Cleveland to Knoxville. In between the metro areas there were many anti-abortion signs, JESUS billboards and crosses, and still some Trump shrines.
Then, yesterday, drove with two colleagues to a plant 5 hours away. Both are apparently deeply religious as the chat revealed. One colleague was deeply Trump. He was earnestly Trump, hoping for good things like jobs to come back. He was laser focused on trans-gendered bathrooms. He was anti-immigration. Seemed to be against “mingling” of cultures. Believed that immigration from Africa spiked due to “Thanks OBAMA”.
I am always tongue tied when confronted with so many incorrect talking points. I feel I have to have facts to respond, while the other side lives in such a simple, clearly defined world.
I can see how Trump has the highest approval rating of any prior GOP president.
I don’t see how the two sides are ever going to get closer to a center.

Trump people have their own alt-reality distinct from the reality everyone else lives in.
