Reagan in 1980 might be the closest, but even in that case, most of Anderson’s 6% probably came from liberal/moderate Republicans.

And while I believe Trump’s ceiling might be the lowest of any American president since we’ve had polling, I think his floor may prove to be as low or lower than most.
