Not so much. He regularly checked on production. We simply paper clipped him. We can argue that we would not have had the Mercury program without him, but honestly, it was a deal with the Devil.

In hindsight, we can shake our heads at the practice, but we have to remember that the Soviets were gobbling up men and technology from the Reich as quickly as we were. They basically ripped up entire factories, down to the smallest parts, and carted them back to Mother Russia to rebuild and upgrade their own forces. The scientists were given their own Faustian bargain: Work for us or spend the rest of your days in Siberia (if you even make it that far).
