re: #372 Dr Lizardo

Funny you mention that about laundry.

Not long ago, I encountered a young American lass who had just rented an apartment not far from me. She had a washing machine in her apartment, but as is typical here, no dryer. She asked, “Where do I dry my clothes?”

I replied, “Ah, the Czechs are super-advanced. Here, the locals use a combo of solar, off-the-grid energy and wind power.”

It took her a minute to figure out I meant you hang your clothes to dry on a clothesline on the balcony.

:D

Yeah, wish I had something to hang a line to and from. But my balcony is open with no posts or roof, so I use the dryers. Alas. Well, I do put the bath mats and throw rugs with rubber backing over the railings, so there’s that. We always hung our clothes on the line 50+ yrs ago. And had to iron them, too. My first washing machine was a wringer-washer type. A few years later, I had a nice top loader and a gas dryer, bought from my employer, the local gas co. With 2 kids, it was hard to keep up otherwise working FT. : )
