Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson, Evan Bayh, Mary Landrieu, and Max Baucus are the types of senators that you tend to get with a 50-state strategy. I remember the rage against all of them. There was a lot of in-fighting in blogs about the need for them, and how we needed to get better Democrats in those seats.

Let’s say do make headway over the next two election cycles. How do we keep from blowing up again if these type of Dems replace the Republicans that hold those seats now?

Blue Dogs like those are the kind that succeed in the Midwest, in the South, in Appalachia. They’re the kind who got their asses ripped up one side and down the other for taking a gamble on the ACA. A 50 state strategy may give us back Congress, but it will not give us a glorious progressive revolution. It’s a one-or-the-other choice: A Democratic Congress or a progressive party. Can’t really have both.
