From a day-to-day point of view, that may be better than living in a Democratic stronghold where almost everyone has convinced themselves that, for instance, they are in no way tinged with racism, but the part of town where they mostly speak Spanish is objectively crime-ridden. They believe in social services but are a bit reluctant to pay for them and can’t we just stop those homeless people from hanging around looking ugly?

I exaggerate. A bit. But it’s hard for the fairly substantial progressive community to make headway against people who think they are progressive. Of course I have it better than most … I’m just venting. Off to a Democratic Party meeting now, of the more progressive variety. Later.
