As the most recent PRRI poll showed (PRRI is a respected Christian polling outfit), for the first time, “nones” outnumber “Evangelicals.” (Evangelicals were the largest Christian group.)

The Democratic Party is missing an opportunity by ignoring what is now the largest “religious” group in the USA. (To be clear, “none” doesn’t equal “atheist,” but a lot of nones eventually wind up there.)

But as we already know “none” simply means not of any of the groups. It’s not a unifying factor to rally any sort of political support around.* And it definitely doesn’t meet in large groups to organize, fund raise, and potentially take political action.

* - And interesting as it would be to see a major political party attempt a non-religion campaign ad I don’t think we’ll see it any time soon.
