The actual response is irrelevant to these domestic terrorists, and to the chances of more domestic terrorism. Heavy-handed responses don’t limit terrorism, as we have seen all over the world. Enabling it by having no consequences at all, as there were from the Bundy ranch, doesn’t do anything to stop it either obviously.

The continuing problem is that there are constant sources of radicalisation, and that fresh terrorists are constantly generated from these sources. In the Islamic world, there are always more videos, always more disenfranchised young men, always more demagogues. In the US, there is always more FOX, always more talk radio, always more demagogues. It is the media and information they consume that produces terrorists, not the government response. Just like conspiracy theories where facts don’t matter (and only strengthen belief), terrorism is a phenomenon of brainwashing.

White domestic terrorists like these are created the same way as Islamic ones. They are brainwashed by FOX, enabled by a complicit media, reinforced by their social contacts with like-minded individuals, and equipped by freely available weapons of war.

This is more political than religious, Religious radicals are easier to recruit and a lot of Americans that might support this kind of thinking are to old to do anything about it. I have seen it before after Ruby Ridge and the Oklahoma bombing. You have to remember that a lot of the people that talk this stuff are to scared to do anything more than just talk when it comes right down to it.
