maybe I am sentimentalizing and nostaligicizing, but I seem to recall a time in politics when you could disagree with a person’s politics and even hate what they stood for and what they did, even dislike them as a person - but not feel compelled to hate them, belittle them, and spread malicious and unfounded lies about them just to damage them.
