The New Yorker: Why Roy Moore’s Law-School Professor Nicknamed Him Fruit Salad

Before he went to law school, Moore commanded a Military Police company in Vietnam.

Serving as the commander of 188th Military Police Company of the 504th Military Police Battalion, Moore was known to be very strict. Some of his soldiers gave him the derogatory nickname “Captain America”, due to his attitude toward discipline. This role earned him enemies, and in his autobiography he recalls sleeping on sandbags to avoid a grenade or bomb being tossed under his cot, as many of his men had threatened him with fragging.

I have to say I know the type. Now, command of a company (or a battalion for that matter) is not a popularity contest, but when you have to change your billeting arrangements for fear of assassination by your own soldiers, you might at least want to consider the possibility that you’re not doing it right. Apparently Moore never did.
It’s possible that Moore’s general shitheadedness is payback for all those smart ass liberals who threatened him with fragging in Vietnam and humiliated him in law school.
