re: #380 NY Nana

I wonder if it was a gym in their home, and if the door was open. A 4-year old, unattended, can get into trouble so quickly. I worry for her 6 or 7 year old brother, who found her. May she rest in peace. No parent should ever have to bury a child.

My Mum zt”l lost a 16 year old brother from drowning over the July Fourth weekend, as she had just become engaged to my Dad zt”l, and they were at his parents’ home in another part of MA for the weekend. My Mum could not swim, yet for the rest of her life she insisted that if she had been there, she could have saved him.

It is called ‘magical thinking’, and as the oldest sibling, she was very protective.

I was afraid to swim, as were all my cousins, because of it. I am an ‘only’.

I cannot even imagine what the family must be going through. A 4-year old?

I agree that parents must do anything they can to make a home safe. I remember when our 4 were growing up, I needed eyes in the back of my head to keep a step ahead of them.

And may G-d comfort the parents. They have a very hard row to walk ahead of them.

And the worst part of it is that no matter what a parent does these tragedies can and do sometimes happen for no reason and just because of some bad luck.
Life can be a real bitch.
