re: #383 Decatur Deb

It’s remotely possible that, 40 years from now, Democratic politicians will be resigning because they went skeet shooting or ate a cheeseburger last week. Most of the Union soldiers and leaders who fought against slavery would not pass Progressive muster today. That includes Lincoln.

We can get control of our narrative or just hand the whole package over to the fascists.

this here. i know im gonna be unpopular.

i want dems to be ‘better’ than the republicans. ‘for a while’ maybe we can’t.

we are playing by different sets of rules
and when we do we lose. cause they dont care.

some rules we can get around - ie campaign financing/ small donations/ corporate contributions - there has been some movement.

but otoh, as long as citizen united stands, we shouldn’t just ignore it. we use every tool available, as they do.

i think this present situation is another. at least for a while

imo we cant be giving up hard fought, hard won positions (a freakin governorship) because of things, not relate to the job, or long ago and no longer (presumably) representative of the individual.

while they are messing with voter registration and polling sites, there’s clearly interference from foreign countries, and they are holding this info back (ie not releasing it during the campaign) for when it can do the most damage strategically

we cannot…again - at least unless and until they do.

as i’ve said twice today, i think it’s a winning tactic to press the republican party institutionally to clean house. not to pressure resignations - to boot em out as it has to power to do. make it their responsibility

they wont -for the exact same reason we cant get ‘responsible’ gun owners to cull out the demonstrably reckless and dangerous.

so don’t unilaterally surrender on this

to reiterate
- i am in no way passing judgement on the actions from 30 odd years ago
- if they aren’t representative of a closeted guy today
- if it’s not relevant to his job or performance

we don’t give away the store - governors, senators are too high a price when only one side respects the system
