Although the question of (secular) personhood does have moral and legal consequences, one can discuss it separably, without going into the pro-choice/anti-abortion debate. In fact, it has very little bearing on the debate, because the numbers of late-term abortiins, when it becomes relevant, is minuscule.
Except there’s not a whole lot of reason to discuss them otherwise. Say a mother miscarries right before our hypothetical date. Say another mother miscarries right after. Is the second mother required to have a proper funeral? If the first mother has one, is she being stupid? The concept is more about legal consequences than philosophical ones.
