Strip mining is mostly western Pa. The “hard” coal was NE PA and where I posted.List of Patches. You cannot go far in the woods between Scranton and Sunbury Pa and not stumble on an old mine, culm or a “pirate” dig.

Brocton Pa Tuscarora coal mine. Everywhere you see gray and black is culm and coal.

Gotcha, thanks. I think the Molly Maguires had their origins in the Scranton area but I’m not sure. I can’t imagine working in the mines.
