When I visited JCC’s in Moscow and Frankfurt 10 years ago, they had armed guards at every entrance and all visitors had to pass through a metal detector.

There is one not far from my girlfriend’s place, right in a residential neighborhood in Frankfurt. It still has barricades along the street out front so that nobody can park a car directly in front of it, obviously out of concern for car-bombings.
