He would have helped his standing with the fans a lot if he had Jar Jar graphically killed in part 2. Even if it got a PG-13, it would have been worth it. Jar Jar was the Poochie of Star Wars.

When Jar Jar was filling in for Amidala in the Senate, he was the one that called for a vote to give Palpatine emergency dictatorial powers. So basically the Empire is his fault. I’d say that was a decent character assassination. The galaxy goes to shit… JAR JAR DID IT!
