I should have never sold my Vaxstation 4000/vlc. There is nothing else quite like a VAX running VMS. That was almost as good as a Lisp Machine. At least I can force various varieties of Unix to come close enough to be usable.
In one of my current company’s recent purchases we ended up with a VAX/VMS combo that is still required to run some esoteric process. Next to impossible to find parts for, and for now no ability to replace it.
I’m half-surprised the P&O (People and Organization) did not start digging around to see who in the IT organization might have experience with VAX/VMS operation and associated programming. We have a few, but they are in the US and the system in question is in Germany.
