On the one hand, if they remove Trump now, yes, the base will be livid. However, that still leaves plenty of time between now and the mid-terms next November - and voters in general tend to have short memories. It’s a calculated risk that if Trump is impeached and removed within the next 90 days, it’ll have blown over with the base by 11/2018. But it could work - politics is, after all, the art of the impossible.

We’re trying to apply logic with illogical people. Who in the hell knows how Branch Trumpidians would react to the 25th amendment being invoked.
