My contention is that there are certain aspects of gun control that should be a part of conservative ideology, and could be embraced by conservatives:

Commit a violent crime, your rights should be curtailed: no rights to a gun.
Domestic violence is a violent crime; your rights can constitutionally be curtailed. So a restriction on gun rights is more than acceptable.
Failing to fund enforcement on these curtailments is BEING SOFT ON CRIME.

But that’s not Conservative ideology. American Conservatives don’t care about crime if it’s committed by white people. ‘Soft on crime’ means ‘liked by brown people’ or ‘Democrat’.
