re: #153 Dark_Falcon

A question for the group: Would Kerry have been vulnerable to being attacked for his war record had he not engaged in major anti-war activities after coming home? Because the real beef never seemed to me his war service; That service was maligned because of what Kerry did after he came home. But that’s a partial opinion of mine, not a formed conclusion, and I’d like the group’s input.

I need to leave soon, but you reply after I leave I’ll read it in a couple hours when I return.

You’re basically acknowledging that conservatives are intrinsically intellectually and morally bankrupt. Of course in the conservative mind the real issue was Kerry’s daring to speak out against the Vietnam war after having served and speaking out against the Iraq war at all, vs. the legions of chickenhawks who, from a position of never having served, advocated continuing the pointless sacrifice of servicemen in Iraq.

The catalyst, if you want to call it that, was the malignant seed at the center of the modern conservative gang mentality. Kerry’s bravery in speaking out against the Vietnam War was just the flimsiest of pretextual excuses. Incapable of dealing with his record head on, conservatives decided to project their own evil onto him, to tear him down on fictional charges barbarity and cowardice that reflected their own desired policies of war, torture and sick, gutless voyeurism.
