If a person lives in the Midwest, you need to know how to read the sky. I can sound like a wagon master from the 1800’s if need be. “Yeah, we’re going to need to lash the wagons together if we’re to survive the winds.”
The perfect shade of black in the clouds before the deluge, hot day plus cool nights creates hail, you get the idea.

It’s almost a point of pride at this point, distinguishing between people who know when and approximately where something’s going to hit just by looking at the clouds.
