I think Flake’s primary concern is Flake’s own financial bottom line. If he’s thinking of getting a lucrative banking or DC lobbying job, and that absolutely is what he’s thinking, then his job market value diminishes considerably if he’s perceived as having stabbed Trump and the GOP in the back. He also wants to keep the door open to a GOP Presidential run down the line, and so again being the guy whose attack of conscience just before a midterm election he was too cowardly to participate in also cost Republicans a solid medium term SCOTUS majority doesn’t help him with that. I will be very surprised if Flake votes no.

I think if I were Flake, I’d realize my goose was cooked for a potential Presidential run even in a more sane GOP. The guy has views on things like immigration and Cuba that would get him stuck in Iowa. So perhaps you are right about him seeing a job and worrying about that. I really really hope you’re wrong and something may have clicked when those two ladies confronted him.
