NYC evacuated Zone A areas.

Mind you, the Zone A was meant for Cat 1 storms.

Sandy may have been a Cat 1 storm by wind speed, but the storm surge was closer to a Cat 3 marginal Cat 4 storm, pushing water into Zone B and C areas.

But not everyone wanted to leave those areas.

That’s where some of the problems mount.

My office building was in zone A. It took four feet of water and will be out of action for 2 - 4 weeks, as water got to the building’s mechanicals in the basement. There’s a whole lot of building managers out there trying to get phone guys, electricians, elevator people and other skilled trades into those buildings. Those people will be very busy for a long time.
