I get that it’s political theater. And it’s still hypocritical. They can claim to be fiscal conservatives and fight the reconstruction aid tooth and nail. Force multiple votes and take more than twice as long to get a package adopted than prior disaster aid packages, despite the storm hitting the most densely populated region in the nation and causing catastrophic damage.

Burnishing their “credibility” by voting against disaster aid. Yeah, that’ll sit well with people. It should make even people from these representatives’ districts a tad uncomfortable knowing that they have no problem having double standards on disaster aid. Just wait til that gets applied their way.

This political theater also costs people who were affected by Sandy in real and measurable ways. Towns can’t get contracts done to rebuild key infrastructure. That means individuals and businesses can’t rebuilt. It delays everyone. And that means people who can’t get back into their homes are out of their homes for that much longer.
