re: #408 Blind Frog Belly White
Leaving aside multiculturalism, whether it’s bad or good (Spoiler: it’s good), that’s not even the point of America.
America isn’t about having a common culture, or many cultures. America is about allegiance to an idea - that all people are equal, that freedom is a positive good, that the authority of the government comes from the governed.
None of the basic idea that we all declare allegiance to requires anyone to come from any particular culture.
Yep. Our own Declaration of Independence states up front, “We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.”
