Also, High Sierra’s new file system is only compatible with solid state hard drives. My Mac Mini with a fusion drive had major problems when I tried to upgrade. I was glad an Apple Store genius was able to realign the Fusion Drive to get it going again!

My son has offered to install Linux on his sister’s MacBook to make it more useful, but she’s shopping for a new PC for the family.
