re: #352 Dave In Austin
I wanna ask a question that may be worth a post of it’s own, but I’m to damn lazy. I’m sure it’s been hashed here a time or two as well. But I’ll ask it anyway.
I was born in 1954 and will be 64 in Dec. So those of us with a bit of gristle understand about growing up in a very different and wondrous (for me it was white boy w/moderate privilege) time. 4th of July , Main St. Wheaton, IL…… Late 60’s/70’s in Phoenix AZ. and into the service. 80’s were foggy as was I but there was a change.
When did shit change from what it was to where we are now? And it wasn’t Obama.
I say Reagan. Just because I do. Thoughts?
I’m going with two inflection points: Reagan and Newt. Reagan separated whites from the New Deal. Newt separated Republicans and Democrats. He started the trend where you couldn’t be a Republican who listened to Democrats.
