re: #397 The Ghost of a Flea

A quick Googling brought up these figures: (though they’re from 2013): and are expressed in tons of wine produced annually.

1 Italy 4,796,600
2 Spain 4,607,850
3 France 4,293,466
4 United States 3,300,000
5 China 1,700,000
6 Argentina 1,498,380
7 Chile 1,214,000
8 Australia 1,186,343
9 South Africa 1,146,006
10 Germany 920,200

So the three top producers (all in the EU) produce more wine annually than the next 17 countries in the top 20 (and E&J Gallo is said to provide a quarter of total US production - i.e. more than all of Portugal) - and Trump thinks that he can somehow boost US exports - to France - via tariff trickery?

ADD: I was quite surprised to see China on this list (everyone else I know about) - not that they would get into wine production (like they do with everything else) - I just wonder what Chinese wine might taste like?
