It was…complete strangers were open, friendly and think somehow relieved that life was gonna get back to the real normal. Families were gonna be together again. So many lives had been interrupted, lost and broken.
That’s what my mom has said — there were no strangers on VJ Day, just people celebrating together. She was 20, says she wound up joyriding around town in a carful of people she didn’t know, hollering and honking.
